Pemiscot Progressive Industries opened its doors in 1979 in a 20,000 square foot abandoned warehouse. Today, we have grown into one of the largest recycling Sheltered Workshops in the state of Missouri occupying over 100,000 sq feet of warehouse, office space, and production area. In the past, the Workshop has worked with local companies with assembling and packaging various types of products.
We also contract with MoDOT to provide services at the Rest Areas.
At the Workshop we provide lunch, transportation to and from work, and local doctor visits during normal business hours at no cost to the employees.
Our goal is to provide a safe, dignified and meaningful employment opportunities for adults with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities in a controlled, safe, and highly supervised work environment, enabling them to progress toward normal living and to develop, as far as possible, his or her capacity, performance, and relationship with others.
Pemiscot Progressive Industries was the first Sheltered Workshop in the state of Missouri to maintain a Rest Area. Today we not only provide janitorial and ground maintenance at the Welcome Center, but we also maintain both North and South Bound Truck Parking facilities in Steel, MO and the Truck Parking facility in Caruthersville, MO. As a result of our contract with MoDOT, all Welcome Centers and Truck Parking's in the State of Missouri are maintained by Sheltered Workshops.
